It’s a good question! Especially when some reusable cloth nappies can actually be bought at affordable prices from many retailers these days.
However, there are a number of benefits to buying second hand:
- The nappies you buy are already at full absorbency, meaning that you don’t need to spend time pre-washing them multiple times to ensure they are absorbent enough for your little one. They’re good to go!
- You’re not directly contributing to the mass production of cloth nappies. These preloved nappies have already been made and are in circulation, thereby reducing your carbon footprint.
- Reusable cloth nappies are made to last more than one child. It would be such a shame (and waste) to see nappies thrown out just after one child once potty trained. They’re designed to be used again and again.
- Trying out second hand cloth nappies means that you can spend a little less but sample a range of different brands. Not all cloth nappies are made the same and they all have different absorbencies and fits depending on the individual child. What works for one child may not work for another. Buying second hand means you can try these out, and if they don’t offer the best solution for you, sell them on again.
- Buying second hand is a fantastic minimal waste option, in line with the eco-friendly ethos originally behind them.
